Residence of painter Gheorghe Fikl
Socolari, Caraș-Severin County
ArtHouse Fikl is a creative space where painter Gheorghe Fikl has set up a painting studio and several art galleries. Here, the painter creates his works, and the openings are followed by concerts, out of his desire to combine visual art with music. The old stone buildings are set among the hills, in the middle of nature, near the Nera Gorge. The concert stages are located outdoors, in contrast to the wilderness.
Gheorghe Fikl was born in Timișoara and studied painting at the University of Art and Design Cluj-Napoca and at the West University of Timișoara. He is one of the most impressive contemporary artists in terms of his rise to prominence and interest from collectors in post-communist Romania.
Having had solo exhibitions in Timișoara and Bucharest, as well as in New York, Luxembourg and London, his works are part of important private collections at home and abroad - in the United States, Portugal, France, Andorra, Luxembourg, Germany and Great Britain, including the collection of King Charles III, the Bonte Foundation and the Maria Nobrega Foundation. The painter has also exhibited at the Ajuda National Museum in Portugal - a venue that has showcased artists such as Joan Miro and Joana Vasconcelos. He lives and works in Timisoara and Socolari.
Socolari is called “the village of Timișoara artists”, having been repopulated with artists since the 1990s.
