Ioan-Dragoș Dimitriu

Ioan-Dragoș Dimitriu was born in Brașov and made his international debut in 2011 at the Berlin Philharmonic Hall with Beethoven's “Emperor” concert no. 5. He has also performed as a soloist or member of chamber music ensembles on numerous stages in Europe and Japan. Dragoș started studying piano at the age of 6 and was guided on the piano art by pianist and Univ. Prof. Dr. Corina Ibănescu. Together with his mentor, between 2003 - 2010 he won more than 20 First Prizes and five Grand Prizes at national and international piano competitions, including First Prize at the International Music Competition in Fundao, Portugal, between 2003-2007 First Prize at the National Olympics and was a laureate of Eurovision Young Musicians. In 2010 he entered the University of Music and Dramatic Arts in Vienna where he worked under Martin Hughes and then with Stefan Arnold. As a solo pianist or in chamber ensembles he won first prizes in international competitions such as the “Pietro Argento” International Piano Competition in Italy, the Cameristi de'll Alpe Adria Competition in Italy and the Casino Austria Rising Stars Award in Vienna (together with Serbian saxophonist Marko Dzomba).
He founded the Aegeria Artists Management agency in Vienna and the Transylvanian International Piano Competition in Brașov, in which more than 100 pianists from all over the world participated. He is also the founder of the Ton der Jugend Symphonieorchester in Vienna, which has brought some of the most talented artists up to the age of 35 from all over the world to stages such as the Golden Hall of the Musikverein in Vienna and the Konzerthaus in Vienna. Since 2018 he has been appointed Artist Manager of the Chiemgauer Musikfrühling festivals in Germany and the SoNoRo International Chamber Music Festival. In September 2020 he was appointed Manager of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Brașov. In 2022 he launched the pilot project Apollonia Culture Bank, which led to the establishment of a new cultural institution in Brașov - Apollonia Cultural Centre. From 2023, Ioan-Dragoș Dimitriu became SoNoRo’s Development and Innovation Director.
